Countdown to the Math TAKS™(Spanish version available for gr. 3-5)
|
Countdown to the Math TAKS gives you the
power to practice for the TAKS as you assess.
Coupled with Fast Focus & Numeracy Power-Up,
it’s an unbeatable approach!
The released 2009 TAKS test is golden? Why? It allows
your students to practice TAKS-format problems, and it
affords both teachers and administrators the most
authentic assessment of their students' proficiency that is
possible.
Unfortunately, the other released tests are obsolete
and don't reflect the latest changes to the TEKS. This is
why The Countdown is more relevant than ever.
When it’s early January and your students have finished
America Math Lone Star, it’s time for The Countdown.
It works just as easily as a Lone Star warm-up, but is in
TAKS format. Here’s the unique part—every 5 pages
mirror a full-length TAKS test. If you print the pages
front to back, you can fit an entire test on 3 pages!
Have your students work one page a day starting on
Monday, and by Friday afternoon you’ll know which
students need tutorials and which students are likely to
pass with Commended Performance.
And the best part—the series equates to 10 complete
TAKS tests! Now that’s a thorough assessment.
If you purchase The Countdown’s companions, Fast Focus
and Numeracy Power-Up, you’ll have more than enough
material for tutorials and mini-lessons. It’s an unbeatable
system—easy to implement, straightforward, and
affordable!
ORDER ITEMS BASED ON THE TOTAL NUMBER OF TEACHER IN YOUR GRADE, NOT JUST MATH TEACHERS. We confirm this with your district. If you order based on a lesser number, your order will not be processed.

Q: How does Countdown work?
A: As a whole, Countdown is the equivalent of 10 complete TAKS tests! You don’t give a whole test at once,
though. You simply give your students 1 page a day for 5 or 6 days (checking it daily). By the end of the week
your students have worked an entire test, and you have a whole-test assessment! Imagine repeating this cycle
10 times over the weeks just before the TAKS! It’s easy; it’s powerful!
Q: Is Countdown practice or assessment?
A: It’s both! Your students practice the TAKS objectives each day. You assess their degree of mastery at the
end of each week. You’ll know whether your students are likely to pass the TAKS, fail the TAKS, or receive
Commended Performance!
Q: Why is Countdown more effective than a traditional TAKS practice book?
A: Think about the average TAKS practice book. What do you get? A hundred pages of TAKS material broken
down by objective? That’s a good start, but the notorious data dump phenomenon comes into play. You may
cover Objective 1 in January, but by the time the actual test arrives, your students have forgotten
some/much/all of what they reviewed in January. Countdown keeps the objectives fresh by exposing students
to all of the TEKS objectives on a weekly basis.
Q: Why is Countdown easier to use than TAKS prep software?
A: Ask yourself this question: how many times can your students get into the computer lab each week? Once?
Twice? And how many minutes per week does the average student get to work on a classroom computer? Ten
minutes? Thirty minutes? Countdown is not dependent on computers. It’s dependent on you, your students,
and a copy machine. Free your computer time for more important things—science, history, writing, and
research.
Q: How does Countdown work with Fast Focus and Numeracy Power-Up?
A: After you’ve identified the objectives your students haven’t mastered (using Countdown and Quick Track),
pull out Fast Focus and Numeracy Power-Up for a quick tutorial! You’ve heard of data driven decisions, right?
Countdown gives you the data, Fast Focus and Numeracy Power-Up give you the resources to address the data!

Q: What is Quick Track?
A: This is a simple tracking sheet that students fill out after checking a page of Countdown with their teacher.
With one quick glance, you’ll know which TAKS objectives a student has or hasn’t mastered. Quick Track gives
you, your teachers, and resource professionals the data to make the decisions. Students love it!
